November Question of the Month

From the Alliance for Justice
Q&AmarkCan our 501(c)(3) organization issue a press release congratulating a Senator-elect on her recent victory, and asking her to work hard on a particular issue?

Q&A A markYes.
A 501(c)(3) organization may issue a press release congratulating a Senator-elect on a recent victory, and asking her to work for a particular issue. The organization should be careful to not frame the candidate's election as a victory for the organization, suggest that any of the organization's efforts assisted the candidate's election, or discuss any preferences for future candidate elections. Also, keep in mind that meeting with the senator-elect to discuss specific legislative proposals may count toward your organization's lobbying limit.
