Closing the Expectations Gap 2011
A new survey from Achieve reveals that of 20 states plus the District of Columbia with college and career-ready graduation standards in place, only four actually required them of the Class of 2010. This figure underscores how far most of our nation’s schools have to go toward a college-ready curriculum.
But things are finally starting to change--state leaders are developing new, higher standards and assessments aligned to the requirements of college and the workplace, and 44 states plus the District of Columbia have pledged to implement them. This is the first large-scale effort to ensure that all students graduate from high school ready for both higher education and the 21st-century job market.
