The Freedom Riders: New Documentary Recounts Segregated Bus System in the Deep South

Democracy Now! profiles The Freedom Riders in a new documentary recounting the historic 1961 effort to challenge the segregated bus system in the deep south. 

Located at the historic site of the 1960 Woolworth’s sit-in, the new International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro, North Carolina, is marking the start of Black History Month with the story of the Freedom Riders, young people, black and white, who risked mob violence to help southern blacks register to vote.
