As several recent international comparisons make clear, America no longer leads the world in top scientists – either students or professionals. Not only does this have education and economic implications, it has personal implications as well: personal choices, like whether to vaccinate children or how much energy to use requires an understanding of science. This article looks at four areas ripe for reform, and some ideas to make it happen.
