Implementing Graduation Counts
A common formula that governors can use to calcuate their state's high school graduation rate makes huge steps towards understanding student success in the US. The NGA reports that more than half of the states were already publicly reporting their high school graduation rates based on a common formula for 2010, and 48 states are on track to use it for their 2011 graduation reports. This formula, used identically for all states, paves the way for improvements in state data collection and reporting capacity, development of additional student outcome indicators, and annual reports on progress towards these commitments.
