The Southern Education Foundation says that the South, “that once built and sustained an economy and a society on the under-education of children of color” now has a majority of students of color. This transformation in public school enrollment requires fundamental changes in how public education is financed and undertaken. Their futures, and the economic future of the South, depend on it.
