Recommendations for the Creation of the Early Learning Challenge
Responding to requests for comments, a group of researchers and educators recommends to federal policymakers how PreK-3rd alignment can be built into proposals for the Race to the Top - Early Learning Challenge. Alignment between high-quality early learning/PreK and early elementary grades (K-3) can ensure that gains made in PreK programs are sustained, and that achievement gaps can be narrowed.
PreK-3rd recommendations include: 1) governance, funding and data efforts; 2) standards, assessments and program improvement; 3) professional development; and 4) transitions.
