Report Roundup: Kids Friendly Cities Report Card
This report ranks cities using different combinations of factors to determine which were best and worst for children. Formulas using such criteria as public safety, economics, environment and health were tailored to each of three areas described: major cities (those with more than two million people), component cities (large suburbs outside major cities) and independent cities (large cities below the major city minimum population). The report says the best major city for children to live in is Portland, Ore., which along with Seattle received the only A-plusses. The worst major city, Atlanta, received a C-minus. The best component and independent cities were Overland Park, Kan., and Burlington, Vt., respectively, while the worst of those two categories were Moreno Valley and San Bernadino, both in California.
