The debate over education has focused primarily on elementary and high schools in recent years, but middle level reform must be included as part of this conversation. It is time for all of us- policymakers, practitioners, parents and others - to view education as a continuum and to provide the full range of support required to meet the needs of students at all levels of learning.

Middle level schools face a number of unique challenges that are often overlooked in this debate.
